In the sun-drenched landscapes of the American South, Micah Mackenzie's lens weaved visual tales of resilience. Hailing from Sumter, SC, a town steeped in history and shadows of adversity, Micah had witnessed firsthand the triumphs and struggles of his community. Armed with a camera and a storyteller's heart, he sought to capture narratives that transcended borders and united cultures.

Drawn by the allure of Cuba's vibrant culture and indomitable spirit, Micah embarked on a transformative odyssey to the enigmatic island. Inspired by echoes of shared histories, he set out to unravel the threads that connected Cuba and the American South in ways he could have never imagined.

Stepping onto Cuban soil, Micah found himself captivated by the rhythms that pulsed through the streets of Havana. UNICORNS in the RAD

As an artist and photographer, I cherish the moments that allow me to infuse my work with a piece of myself and connect with those drawn to it. Recently, a chance encounter with a beautiful black family outside my studio brought me an unexpected and much-needed source of joy.

At that moment, I was reminded of the wise words of Joseph Pearson, who encouraged me to "be myself" and to put my whole self into my work. It was a feeling that came naturally as I stepped outside for some sunlight and noticed the family passing by.

As fate would have it, I had just decided to display a piece of art that I typically keep hidden, featuring Biggie Smalls. Despite the potential for different interpretations by different cultures, I felt a strong urge to share it with this family.

And as luck would have it, the family turned the corner and noticed the piece and their pure joy and excitement were exactly what my soul needed in that moment. It was a meaningful connection that I crave and one that reminded me of the power of art to bridge gaps and bring people together. I told them how I saw them and put the piece out there and we all laughed at how timing and fate work well together.

So, to the universe, I say thank you for sending the Unicorns of the RAD my way. Their visit was truly magical and much needed, and I am grateful for the reminder always to be myself and to put my whole self into my work.

Damkianna: The Enchanting Being That Graced My Studio

Recently, I had the pleasure of working with Damkianna, a captivating being whose alluring beauty left me in awe. The session was for her promos for shows she held at SXSW, and I was thrilled to be entrusted with bringing her vision to life.

From the moment she walked into my studio, I knew that this was going to be a special shoot. Her delicate features, radiant skin, and flowing hair gave her an almost magical quality, and I felt both honored and challenged to capture her essence on film.

As we worked together, I found myself constantly mesmerized by Damkianna's poise and grace. She moved with a fluidity and elegance that seemed almost otherworldly, and her eyes held a depth and wisdom that belied her youthful appearance.

Despite the unique challenges of working with such an extraordinary subject, I was delighted with the final results of our shoot. Through careful lighting, framing, and editing, I was able to create a series of images that showcased Damkianna's beauty in all its enchanting, captivating glory.

As a photographer, I feel incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Damkianna. Her presence in my studio was a reminder of the incredible diversity and richness of the world we live in, and of the endless creative possibilities that lie within it.
